The Augustus Temple of Ankara is situated in the Ulus quarter of the city. The Galatian King Pylamenes built this ancient temple in 10 A.D in honour of Augustus. The Romans reconstructed the temple on the Ankara Acropolis in the 2nd century and the Byzantines converted the temple to a church in the 5th century. The achievements of Augustus were inscribed on the walls of the Monument Ancyranum and remain today as an important political testimony of his life.
